Prof Terri Grant
Prof Terri Grant, head of the Professional Communication Unit (PCU) in Commerce, has won a global award for her service to the business communication discipline.
The award was announced at the Presidential Awards Dinner at the 81st Annual International Conference of the Association for Business Communication recently in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dean of Commerce Prof Ingrid Woolard said: “Not only was Prof Grant instrumental in bringing the ABC conference to Africa for the first time, but she is also the first recipient in Africa to win this prestigious award. We are so proud of you.”
Prof Grant has a few extra places on her new course, the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Business Communication) for which she is taking applications.
Prof Grant’s award was a joint decision by the past presidents, publication board chair and other members of the ABC.Committee member, Professor Peter Cardon said: “The nominating committee chose you for this year’s award for your many years of contribution to the business communication field and your many years of ABC service, including your exceptional work organizing the first ABC regional conference in Africa. I’ve heard many wonderful things about the conference.”
There was a warm round of applause when her award was announced in New Mexico.
The Francis W. Weeks Award of Merit acknowledges contributions to the profession and recognizes outstanding advancement in the discipline of business communication through a singular accomplishment or a series of accomplishments.
Criteria include service and leadership in the profession, meritorious projects, directing conventions, liaison and other factors. Only one award is allocated globally, per year.
