Course outline:

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamental tenets of creativity and its application within a business context, enabling students to see problems differently and to develop innovative solutions accordingly. The course runs over the first semester and is designed to support students with the development of innovative and alternative business ideas, concepts and solutions. It seeks to challenge existing silo-based thought patterns and to assist students in their transition to developing a creative working life.

The course comprises two inter-related components:

1. Creativity and Artistry

Here the focus is on last 100 years of creative practice, looking at the various characteristics of creative artists (inter-alia writers, painters, musicians) and so to learn about the artistic principles we might apply to our own creative lives as would-be entrepreneurs.  Some of the topics covered include the mindset of artists (suffering + love + resilience) and the disciplines of art (proactivity + practice + perspective + serendipity).

2. Creative Electives

Students are assigned to the two of three electives: either writing, mindfulness practice or music.  Each is aimed to introduce students to creative relevant techniques and insights.  In the process students are taught to find and trust their innate artistic voices.
