The School of Economics is seeking to appoint suitable post graduate candidates to join its academic team. We are specifically looking for young South African candidates that show potential to be future academics.
The expectation is that these candidates are already enrolled in, or in the process of enrolling in, a PhD in Economics. The positions are meant to provide the candidates with the opportunity to develop, within a mentoring system, their teaching, research and management skills. The successful candidate shall enter into a contract that commits him/ her to undertake two years of supported academic development activities within the school.
Responsibilities include:• Teach Undergraduate and Postgraduate economics courses• Ensure active involvement in research activities, including progress on a PhD in Economics.• Contribute to curriculum development in the field of economics• Provide consultation sessions for students.• Work in a team with colleagues within the School• Contribute to academic coordination and perform administrative tasks related to teaching practice.
Requirements include: • A Masters degree in Economics, with at least a 65% average. Students who have successfully completed their Masters degree but not yet graduated will also be considered.• Previous tutoring / teaching experience, preferably in the School of Economics • Excellent written and verbal skills • Good interpersonal skills • Evidence of good organizational and time-management skills • Evidence of research intent and quality e.g. PhD proposal, journal articles
