Course entry requirements: Honours in Economics or equivalent or at the discretion of the Head of Department. Students not registered for an Economics Masters programme will need permission from the graduate convenor.
This course will focus on macroeconomic analysis and policy design in countries. Students will become familiar with the basic macroeconomic accounting framework and learn to apply a range of quantitative and qualitative models to and forecast key elements of that framework. Students will learn how to assess adjustment needs and to design policy measures to bring the economy back to a sustainable economic path. The course will have an applied and
policy-oriented approach and focus largely on countries in Africa, using country cases to illustrate points. It is intended to help prepare graduate students for work in government and international institutions.
