DPRU Extension Courses
 
During the 2002 and
the 2004 calendar year the Development Policy
Research Unit based at the School of Economics,
UCT inassociation with USAID hosted an Extension
Course.
In 2002 we explored the
following topics:
- The supply and demand of labour in South Africa - Unemployment in South Africa - Wage trends and differentials in South Africa - Globalisation and the labour market - Training and skills development - Dual labour markets - Labour markets, poverty and inequality - Selected policy issues (e.g. minimum wages, income grant etc.) - Assessment of labour market data
Two
separate courses
were offered in
Johannesburg and one course was held in Cape Town.
The
Johannesburg courses ran from the 2 to 3 July 2002 and from the 13
to 14 August 2002.
The
Cape Town course was held from 3 to 4 September2002.
Preference
was given to policy based institutions and individuals employed within policy
linked institutions.
