Current Position: Associate Professor

Academic & other responsibilities

i) Convener of INF2004F Second year IT course for Accounting, finance, economics & business management students. Developed the INF2004F course to meet the requirements of professional bodies such as SAICA, IFAC.
ii) Lecture to undergraduate & post-graduate students (INF2004F, INF3012 & present Seminars (INF4015W, INF4014Z, INF4014W)
iii) Supervise post-graduate students including 1 Doctorate student
iv) Head of Marketing department of information systems, UCT.
v) Member of the department research committee
vi) Reviewer for the International Small Business Journal, United Kingdom
vii) Reviewer for the Encyclopedia of E-commerce, E-government and Mobile commerce, USA.

Position: Senior Lecturer & Head of Computer Science department

Responsibilities & projects

  • I headed the computer science and informatics department.
  • Conducted various administrative duties which included budgeting for the department requirements, course design & development to meet SAQA requirements, staff recruitment, selection & development, career guidance, etc.
  • Served on the NAS faculty management restructuring committee, IT development committee, research & development committee.
  • Member of the advisory group responsible for the merger of the computer science department (Qwaqwa campus) with that of the University of Free State University.
  • Established collaborative relationships with business organizations in the Free State province. These organizations sponsored various student projects and offered internship programs for final year computer science students.
  • Supervised the development of two modern computer laboratories,
  • Developed standards and procedures for ensuring ethical, stable and effective utilization of computer/telecommunication resources in the department.
  • Audited utilization of IT resources
  • Developed & delivered the following computer science courses - Computer Networks, Operating systems, Management information systems, Data structures and algorithm, E-commerce and trends in technology.
  • Developed and established a new honours programme in Information systems management.
  • External examiner of M Sc. and MIS candidates at South African Universities

Consulting:

  • Conducted IT audits and forensic analysis of computer installations in SMEs in the Free-state province
  • I facilitated IT strategic planning initiatives and implemented IT controls based on frameworks such as COBIT, ITIL & ISO 17799 in SMEs within the Free-State province & Lesotho.
  • Implemented accounting information systems in a number of organizations in the region.

CENTRE FOR ACCOUNTING STUDIES (CAS), LESOTHO 1995 2000

Position: Head of Information Systems

Responsibilities:

  • I was responsible for the overall control and management of all computers and communication systems.
  • Budgeted and planned for IT requirements.
  • Implemented the LAN & WAN systems, standardized software products to allow greater information sharing & software upgrade. Migrated system to multi-platform Linux, Administered & diagnosed the network system and also implemented CAS database.
  • Managed IT procurements & negotiated contracts and service level agreements with vendors in the areas of procurement, telecommunications, supply, service and support.
  • Lectured on IT & Computer Auditing courses

COMPUTER SYSTEMS & NETWORKS (CSN), LESOTHO 1989 1995

Position: Systems Analyst/Project manager

Conducted major computerization and training projects for several organizations & government departments: Food Management Unit, Lesotho Telecommunication corporation, Lesotho Housing and Land Development Corporation, Lesotho Highland Development Authority, Department of Mines and Geology, Ministry of Finance, Finance department of Central Bank of Lesotho, Department of Energy and a number of private firms.

Have also consulted with the following organisations in various IT fields:

Institute of development management for Lesotho, Botswana & Swaziland (IDM) 1993 - 2000

Organised and conducted workshops for executives, senior civil servants, business managers and other delegates from Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana. Areas of focus included: Systems development, enterprise management, internal controls and computer auditing, software engineering, IS planning

Lesotho Institute of Chartered Accountants (LIA) 1998 - 1999

I headed a team that established the information needs of LIA and developed their database systems.

Finance Department National University of Lesotho 2000

Reviewed the departments vision, mission and values and facilitated the development of their strategic plan.

Kingsway Opticians (Lesotho) 1997- Date

I have led the company through a series of upgrades to capitalize on emerging technologies and application enhancements. I have implemented the companys electronic commerce strategy, which has resulted in substantial increase in sales. I have also facilitated the formulation of their information technology strategy, security policies and computer audit activities.
