Title: Using multiple assessment approaches to enhance objectivity and student learning

A discussion of the assessment approaches used for student group projects in an integrated capstone course for the Information Systems major at UCT. The course offers students the opportunity to analyse, design and develop systems in a real-world environment. The practical nature of the course combined with the added complexity of group work, necessitates varied and multiples assessment approaches to aid objective assessment of group performance as well as support the learning goals. This includes a range of measures and evaluations each addressing a particular area throughout the life cycle of the project, with regular
review-points and feedback to enhance student learning. By using a process of multiple assessment opportunities, different assessment needs posed by the different facets of the group projects, are addressed. The effective implementation of this process and
the underlying measures and evaluations, have been developed and refined over a period of three years. The aim of the seminar is to discuss the further refinement of the process.

A finger lunch and refreshments will be provided. For RSVP and further information on the seminar, please contact:
