Application

Applications for 2009 are closed.

Applications for 2010 open on Tuesday 1 September 2009.

The official closing date for applications is 7 December 2009 for study in 2010.

Candidates who do not have an undergraduate degree are required to take the UCT NBT test (AQL) as well as the department entrance exam.

High quality late applications may be considered depending on available space and at the discretion of the department.

Evaluation Criteria

Candidates are assessed using a variety of criteria, including the following:

  • Academic record and achievements

  • Work record and achievements

  • Relevant IT experience

  • Relevant Commercial experience

  • Mathematical and Language aptitude and ability

  • Social and demographic factors

  • Motivation

  • Potential contribution to the programme

Application Forms

Candidates will need to complete and submit a UCT1 application to Central Admission and a department application to the department.

The UCT1 (application to study at UCT) form can be obtained from the UCT Central Admissions Office (021 650 4770) or can be downloaded from: http://www.uct.ac.za/apply/applications/forms/

Select Application Forms, then Application for admission to study (Form 1). The UCT1 form must be marked for the attention of Levina Kolbe and returned to Admissions Office, Kramer Building, UCT, Rondebosch 7701 so that you are placed on the UCT system for 2009. The form can be submitted personally to the above office. Note: This UCT1 form must NOT be submitted to the department

The department application must be completed electronically and emailed to us at the following addresses:

Department applications must not be scanned. They must be completed electronically and submitted as an attachment to your email. Hand written applications will not be accepted.

Please note UCT email does not accept zipped folders. Do not zip any documents as it will not reach our email boxes.

Since the above means of submission is liable to error, please check that you receive a confirmation of receipt within two weeks of submission.

UCT’s application rules require that both the above application forms must be submitted to the respective offices at the same time.
