Welcome to Actuarial Science

Welcome to the home page of the Actuarial Science Department which is part of the School of Management Studies within the Faculty of Commerce.

The University of Cape Town is the oldest university in South Africa and is situated at the foot of Devil's Peak in one of the most beautifully located cities in the world. More importantly the University has been consistently rated amongst the top research institutions in South Africa.

The Actuarial Science section is primarily concerned with teaching actuarial courses to students hoping to qualify as actuaries and with research into a wide range of actuarially related fields. Some students combine actuarial courses with finance courses in order to focus on quantitative finance.

The section typically is responsible for teaching some 400 undergraduates, 75 honours and 20 postgraduate students each year. The Actuarial section has a very proud record of success in the professional examinations.
