The student advisor can assist students in the following areas:

  1. Consult on undergraduate course content for courses offered by the Dept of Accounting.
  2. Consult on course combinations and choices only where these fall outside of the normal program structure which students should be following. E.g. where a student has failed one or more courses and needs to restructure a program and needs advise on the content and difficulty level of specific courses in order to do this.
  3. Students are to please first consult Faculty Office, who should deal with all routine and technical queries, such as how many courses a student is allowed to do in a year, how many courses are still needed to graduate and the equivalent level of acceptance of our courses by another university or vice versa.
  4. Consult on accounting based careers options on a very general level. For detailed careers advice student are strongly recommended to consult the Careers Office on middle campus.
  5. Consult on academic problems and other problems which a student may have within the department.
  6. Students with problems of a more personal nature are welcome to approach the student adviser as a first contact point. However the student advisor is not qualified to consult on such matters and will only be able to assist the student by referring him/her to more qualified counselors.
  7. Please note that the University has a Student Advise and Development Centre.  This centre provides the following advice and counseling services:
  • Personal matters – qualified social workers
  • Bursary and financial advice
  • Re-admissions assistance
  • Accommodation
