Masters Programme in Financial Management
Programme Structure
Students following the programme full-time complete ACC5002W and ACC5003W in one academic
year. For students following the part-time course, ACC5002W will be completed in the
first year and ACC503 in the second.

ACC5002W - Advanced Financial Management
Candidates are required to complete the Financial
Management Honours (ACC4009W) coursework. Candidates whose performance is
exceptional will be invited to convert to a Master of Commerce (Financial Management)
should they so choose. They will then be required to complete selected coursework
and complete ACC5003W instead of the Honours Technical Report.
ACC5003W - Dissertation in Financial Management
The dissertation length will be approximately 20,000 words excluding appendices and
bibliography. A candidate will attend a research method course during which his/her
dissertation proposal will be developed. A candidate's dissertation proposal will
require the course co-ordinator's and his/her supervisor's approval. A candidate
will not be permitted to submit the dissertation if he/she has not completed the coursework
component.
Assessment of the dissertation will be in terms of Rule FM10.2 of the Rules for the
Degree of Master by Coursework and Dissertation.
The dissertation will be required to be of publishable standard.
In order to be awarded the degree a candidate must pass both the coursework and
dissertation components. Each component shall be given equal weighting. To be
awarded the degree with distinction a candidate must achieve at least 75% for the
coursework and at least 80% for the dissertation.
