Course Description
What is Financial Management?
Financial management is one of the disciplines within the area of
Finance. As management involves planning, decision-making and control, so
financial management focuses on the sources and uses of funds. The goal of
the firm is to maximise shareholders (stakeholders) wealth and financial
management will answer three important questions:
- What specific assets should the firm acquire?
- What total volume of funds should the firm commit?
- How should the funds be financed?
Tips to get the Most out of the Course
- Pre-read (or at least read) the relevant textbook chapters!
- Attend all lectures!
- Read lecture modules and attempt lecture examples “blind” (i.e.
without looking at the solution before giving it a good shot on your
own!)
- Attempt all tuts “blind”!
- Attend all tuts!
- Read widely e.g. financial part of newspapers, FinWeek, Financial
Mail !
