Introduction
Course Description
Welcome to Financial Accounting 3T. This is a major subject for those
not proceeding to the PGDA. The course is designed to cover most advanced
accounting topics, as well as new accounting developments. It also
prepares the student to conduct further studies.
Aims of the Course
The aims of the course may be summarised as follows -
- to provide a broad-based accounting major that ensures that UCT
graduates are well prepared for the business and financial reporting
environment.
- to focus on the understanding and interpretation of advanced
accounting concepts and financial reporting.
- to provide a basis for further postgraduate studies in financial
accounting and related disciplines; in particular to provide a grounding
for professional qualifications issued by bodies such as CIMA, ACCA, CFA,
AIMR and SAICA.
- To provide a learning environment which facilitates the development
of essential graduate qualities:
- Operate effectively with and upon a body of knowledge
- Be prepared for lifelong learning
- Be an effective problem solver
- Work autonomously and collaboratively
- Be committed to ethical action and social responsibility
- Communicate effectively (in writing and orally)
