Short Courses and Certificate 2012

Level and sequence of short courses

The Institute for Monitoring and Evaluation (IME) offers 7 short courses in 2012. Please note that these short courses are pitched at an introductory level (approximately the equivalent of an NQF level 6).

It is strongly recommended that delegates do the short courses in the order that they appear below, as a specific approach to programme evaluation is introduced in the first short course and continued throughout the rest.

Accreditation and certification

The Certificate and the short courses are accredited by the University of Cape Town (not by the Department of Labour). A certificate of attendance will be issued to delegates who have attended a full short course and also after they have attended all the short courses that make up the Certificate. Please note that delegates who arrive late‚ leave early or miss part of the course will not be issued with a certificate of attendance.

On completion of all the short courses or the full certificate‚ delegates may have knowledge of the terminology‚ concepts‚ principles and theories of programme evaluation and may be able to apply these to a real life programme. Delegates can choose to do an assignment which will be assessed for a certificate of competence after they have completed all the short courses. The cost for this assessment would be an additional R1,000 per delegate. The Director of the IME will contact those delegates who qualify to do such an assessment and invoice them for the certificate of competence.

Learning material

Learning material consists of a course outline, course slides and in-class exercises. Delegates who enrol for the full certificate will receive the following text‚ Evaluation essentials, by Marvin Alkin (2011).

Please note that the Institute for Monitoring and Evaluation retains the right to cancel any course if there are fewer than 12 candidates.
