Labour Relations
In Module 1 you will be introduced to the dynamic field of Labour
Relations in South Africa.
After completion of this module you should have a good understanding of:
- The theoretical approaches to industrial relations.
- The historical context of labour relations in SA.
- Relevant legislation governing labour relations.
- Various players in labour relations and their specific roles.
- Current employment trends in labour relations
- Collective bargaining.
- Managing discipline and performance in the workplace.
- Dismissals for misconduct, poor work performance and operational
requirements.
- Employment Equity Act with a particular emphasis on discrimination.
- Strikes and lock outs.
- Dispute resolution.
Organisational Change
In Module 2 we introduce you to the field of organisational change.
Organisational change is a central area of interest in the field of
Organisational Psychology. The centrality of the field is articulated in the
following quotation from your prescribed textbook, All people in all
organisations are concerned and involved with change (Senior, 2002, p.
ix).
After completion of this module you should have a good understanding of:
- Definitions of organisational change and transformation;
- The nature of organisational change;
- The scope of organisational change in terms of people, processes,
organisation and transformation;
- How employees react to organisational change;
- The role of leaders and change agents during organisational change;
and
- The effectiveness of organisational change.
