IS Research Seminar (27 August 2008): Adrie Stander
NOTICE OF RESEARCH SEMINAR
No: 2008. 6
Date: 27 August 2008
Time: 12h30 – 14h00
Venue: Leslie Commerce Building, Upper Campus, Room 6.14
Speaker: Mr Adrie Stander
Topic: "I know what you did last summer! - an introduction to the
technical side of Computer Forensics"
ABSTRACT
With the enormous growth of computer and related technological crimes
over the last few years, it has become extremely important to develop
measures in order to prosecute perpetrators. This seminar will aim to
introduce many of the techniques used by skilled investigators to collect
evidence and build a case that can stand up in court. Due to the highly
complex nature of such crimes, a presentation of this kind can only act as
an introduction, but will aim to give a good overview of what is possible
with the latest technologies. Due to time constraints only a demonstration
of the more important techniques used will be given, based on a hypothetical
case that was assembled from a number of real life cases. Even though the
presentation is of a technical nature, it will be easy to understand by
people with little or no technical background.
