SPEAKER

Elsje Scott is a lecturer in the Department of Information Systems at University of Cape Town (UCT). Elsje holds an MSc degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Stellenbosch. Elsje started her career as a teacher in Physics and Chemistry, worked at the Atomic Energy Board and Unisa and lectured programming at the Cape Technikon (School of Business Informatics) for 14 years before continuing her career at UCT (2000). Elsje enjoys explaining Mathematics and the principles of programming. She currently coordinates the Systems Development Group Project, an exciting course bringing together hard and soft skills and exposing students to real life problems. The technical and other challenges that the development and management of these projects involve provide a diverse and rich field of study.

TOPIC

The paper The Impact of the Adoption of Object-Oriented Testing Practices A South African Perspective was produced for the Informatics 2004 (Kuala Lumpur) conference and was based on an empirical research study done by a group of honours students in 2003 (mentored by Elsje).

This paper presents an overview of an investigation into the extent to which object-oriented (OO) testing practices have been adopted by South African software development companies and the impact that this adoption has had on the efficiency and effectiveness of the testing process. As part of this investigation, the standard of the software testing process in South Africa was compared to the findings of a similar study conducted in Alberta, Canada.
