INF2010S
:: I.T. Architecture
Introduction
INF2010S is a half course focused at students intending to major in Information
Systems for the BCom or BBusSci degrees, although students pursuing other
degrees may be accepted, space permitting.
The syllabus is substantially more technical than most other IS courses and
includes data communications concepts, networking concepts and implementation
and new developments in the data communications field. It also includes a
section on hardware and system architectures. These are core skills that IS
professionals require throughout their careers. Students are also given some
exposure to security and management aspects of networks.
The theory is covered in lectures. The workshops ensure the students are able to
apply this theory to real world applications, and a substantial amount of
learning takes place in the student's own time, completing some homework
assignments and a case study.
There is a case study in which the student is required to produce a network
design report. The lectures on architectures will be supplemented by a number of
workshops. There is, of course, substantial theoretical content in the course,
but in exams, assignments and class exercises, students will be expected to
apply the theory to solve real-world problems.
Students will also be required to write an essay on an IS related topic.
