Course entry requirements:

Honours or equivalent degree.

Objective:

To give students a thorough grounding in Capital Markets and Financial Instruments.

Course outline:

This course forms part of the first year of the Master of Commerce Finance (Financial Management; Financial and Risk Management; and Investment Management) programmes. The course is parttime but intensive. Lectures are usually on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. The focus of the course is on applied finance and capital markets. Topics include Capital Markets, Futures, Options, Fixed income securities, Duration, Forwards, Hedge Funds, Interest Rate Swaps, and International Finance.

DP requirements:

 Successful performance in each of the progress tests and assignments.

Assessment:

Assignments and projects 50%, examination 50%.
