Extension Activities
I am actively involved in a number of educational extension courses targeting
the government sector as well as postgraduate students from within the Southern
African region.
- An objective of mine has been the development of research capacity in
the field of economic modelling. In this regard, I have organised,
co-ordinated and taught on a number of educational extension courses that
have been open to national and international participants. These courses
are:
(a) Introduction to Economy Wide Impact Analysis, July 2001, March 2002,
March 2003, April 2004, April 2005.
(b) Introduction to Computable General Equilibrium Modelling, 16 30 July
2001, 1-12 July 2002 & 30 June 11 July 2003.
(c) Advanced workshop in Economy-Wide Modelling, 7-14 January 2004.
- I developed with Volker Schoer at University of Cape Town a course
Tools for Trade Policy Analysis to teach trade negotiators some of the key
tools for analysis of international trade flows. This course has now been
presented in Lesotho (Dec 2004), Botswana (2005) and Namibia (2005). We host
this course in collaboration with TRALAC at the University of Stellenbosch.
- I am an editor of the South African Journal of Economics and the South
African Journal of Economics and Management Studies.
- I have refereed articles for the following journals:
(a) South African Journal of Economics,
(b) The African Finance Journal,
(c) The Economic Journal,
(d) World Development.
