Course entry requirements: ECO4016F Econometrics or equivalent or at the discretion of the Head of Department. Students not registered for an Economics Masters programme will need permission from the graduate convenor.

Course outline:

This course is intended to equip students with practical econometric skills at an advanced level. The course covers the linear model, linear models, instrumental variables, methods of moments and an introduction to systems of equation. The skills developed in this course are foundational in empirical work involving econometrics, and constitute an essential ingredient in most jobs in the field of economics, whether in the public, private or academic sector. This course also provides skills that are useful in the dissertation phase of the Masters. The course balances theory and computer-based practical applications.

Assessment: Coursework 40%; examination 60%.
