Computer Labs :: Lab Hiring for Educational Courses
The Commerce Faculty, in an endeavour make its extensive
computing facilities available to the wider community, have opened up their Computer Lab
Complexes for hire for educational purposes, however, this has to be restricted to the
Winter and Summer University breaks. Dates vary, but the winter break is
normally 6 weeks starting from the end of May till mid July, and the summer
break is normally 8 weeks from mid November until mid / end of January. For

There are 2 Lab Complexes available for hire in the Commerce
Faculty, 1 with a total capacity of 358 computers, and a 2nd with a total
capacity of 196 computers. These lab complexes are subdivided into
inter-leading labs with varying computer capacities.

The computers are all up-to-date Pentium4, with a minimum of
512 mb ram, most 2 gb ram. They are all on Windows XP, and networked
via Novell Directory Services. They have the full MS Office Suite. Other
software includes, various programming languages, statistical analysis, and accounting

Training Facilities: NetOps School - To facilitate hands-on
computer training in the labs, a training package system has been installed
on all computers, which essentially allows a lecturer to "take over" all the
computers in a lab, from one
central computer, and each student's screen will reflect the lecturer's
screen, also a lecturer at any given point, can "take over" a student's
computer from a central point to help that student.
  1 - The Comlab Computer Lab Complex
The main student computer lab, Comlab is subdivided into eleven distinct
computer labs. There are nine inter-leading, labs with a total
of 358 computers. There are 2 smaller labs. Comlab J and Comlab
K housed separately , but on the same floor, with 24 computers each.
  2 - The Commerce Alumni Computer Lab Complex
The Commerce Alumni Computer Lab is subdivided into three inter-leading computer labs,
with a total of 196 computers.
The lab is located on the ground floor of the Leslie Commerce Building. The
Lewis Lab is also found alongside the Alumni lab, with 84 computers.
However, the Lewis lab is not generally available for hire,
unless by special arrangement
