Computer Labs :: Lab Bookings

The Commerce student computer labs may be booked by the Commerce faculty community for academic use. The wider University community may also apply to book the labs for academic use, but only during university break times. There will be a fee levied when people outside of the Commerce Faculty book the computer labs. To find out more about hiring a lab for an outside course, click here.

Comlab Computer Lab

There are six bookable tutorial labs in the main Comlab facility. These labs have the following computer number breakdown:

• Lab A - 32 computers
• Lab B - 24 computers
• Lab C - 24 computers
• Lab D - 24 computers
• Lab E - 24 computers
• Lab F - 24 computers

These labs on the side may be used for "hands on" tutorials, giving a total of 152 machines in these Tut Labs. The labs may be booked from 8.00 to 19:00, time periods following the UCT timetable.

The remaining labs, Lab G (70 computers) and Lab H (68 computers) are "open" labs and not generally available for Tutorial Bookings, unless by special arrangement. There are 3 additional Honours and Post Graduate Labs:

• Labs J and K - bookable for Postgraduate use (Postgraduate being postgraduate students who are doing postgraduate studies in a Commerce Faculty degree)
• Lab L - is for Information Systems Honours and Post Graduate students only.
• The Postgraduate J and K labs are only available during office hours (from 8am till 4:30pm weekdays only).
• The above-mentioned labs may not be booked, unless by special arrangement.

Commerce Alumni Computer Lab

There are three bookable labs in the Commerce Alumni lab.

• Alumni 1 - 40 computers
• Alumni 2 - 40 computers
• Alumni 3 - 116 computers

These labs have the following special facilities available to staff:

• Wireless microphone
• Television monitors throughout the facility
• DVD/VHS playback capabilities (Output on television)
• Whiteboard Projection (Output on television)
• Laptop connection point. (Output on television)

Booking Procedure

To book a lab, please make use of the online booking system, The Whiteboard System. Simply follow the onscreen instructions to make your booking.
