UCT makes it easier for students to obtain CFA

The Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Professor Melvin Ayogu, has signed a partnership agreement with the CFA Institute, the global association for investment professionals, which will enable students to be on the fast track to the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

UCT, which is the highest ranking African university, joins other top universities around the world which have partnered with the CFA Institute. The first partnership was signed with Said Business School at Oxford University in the UK in 2006.

The partnership will enable alumni to register for CFA exams with an advantage as they will have covered 70% of the CFA level 1 curriculum during their degree. Prospective CFA candidates need to register for exams through the CFA Institute (http://www.cfainstitute.org).

The partnership aligns UCT’s Bachelor of Business Science in Finance (the chartered accountant option and the non chartered accountant option) with the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge syllabus, allowing candidates to complete a Bachelor of Business Science and prepare for the CFA Program at the same time.

Professor Melvin Ayogu, Dean of Commerce said, “The University of Cape Town is already recognised internationally for cutting-edge research, and now we are very pleased to be recognised as a CFA Program Partner as well. Our students will be distinguished as leaders in their field and will open themselves up to the global job market.”

Dr Dennis McLeavey, CFA, Head of Education, CFA Institute said, “I am delighted that University of Cape Town students are making themselves even more attractive to prospective employers through the CFA Program.”
