A Byte of Lunch and a Glimpse of the Web of the Future
Today
(20 August 2008) Opera Software kicks off its worldwide tour of universities with its
visit to the University of Cape Town as part of the new Opera Education program.
This aims to work closely with schools and universities to enhance learning
about the Web.
"We hope this initiative will contribute to student understanding of the Web
and the browser industry," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software. "The
seminars will generate discussion on important topics currently facing the
future and challenges of the Web, among the next generation of industry
leaders."
Opera Education
also includes a complete online course in best-practice Web design, a student
representatives program, and internship opportunities.
South Africa is the first country to host a series of university seminars by
Opera Software for the next two weeks. University tours will also be held in
Russia, Indonesia, Germany, the United States, India, Brazil, Japan, Poland, the
United Kingdom, Vietnam, France, China, and Ukraine.
Opera Software aims to hold 10 university seminars in each country between now
and April 2009. The seminars will explore topics such as the history and future
of the Web, the browser industry, open Web standards, Web applications and the
increasing role of mobile Web browsing in developing countries.
The seminars will provide an opportunity to share deep industry insight about
the Web from one of the most provocative companies shaping it. Students can gain
new perspectives on technology trends, and network with people leading the IT
industry.
Today’s seminar in 2C of the Leslie Social Science building starts at 13h00
and ends at 14h00. It will include a light snack and a free gift for attendees.
